A Charlotte County Deputy had to get several stitches in his hand after he was attacked by a pit bull in front of his own home.
Deputy Donald Woelke was reportedly getting into his vehicle in front of his northwest Cape Coral home when he came face to face with his neighbor’s pit bull.
“The owner told our officer their son was walking the dog, it had gotten loose. There was a retractable leash that was broken,” said Ria Brown of Lee County Animal Services.
According to a cape coral police report,” as soon as Deputy Woelke extended his hand, the dog lunged forward and bit Woelke’s right hand.”
Deputy Woelke stated the dog then shook its head with his right hand still in its jaws.
We stopped by the pit-bull owner’s home to get his side of the story, but no one came to the door.
The owner, Bobby Jones Senior, was issued four citations, including failure to provide proof of rabies vaccination, threatening and menacing behavior and running at large.
“We’ll do an investigation should we declare the dog dangerous the owner would have to comply with a lot of restrictions in order to keep that dog,” Brown said.
