MANITOWOC — Two children were bitten by a pit bull near Madison Elementary School on Monday, according to Lt. Jim Schweigl of the Manitowoc Police Department.
Police received a call shortly before 8:30 a.m. about a child being bitten by the dog and later learned that another child had been bitten by the same dog, he said.
The dog, being fostered for adoption by the Lakeshore Humane Society, had escaped a residence in the 600 block of North Fifth Street, Schweigl said.
The first victim was treated at the scene by Manitowoc Fire Department Rescue Squad personnel and taken to Aurora Medical Center for further treatment.
The second victim suffered puncture wounds to her body and was treated at the school.
The dog was removed from the residence and taken to the humane society by its members.
The owner of the residence was cited for having a biting/attacking dog and for having a dog at large.
